Ironsworn: Amara of Whitebridge 3 – The Makari

[An Ironsworn adventure in the Ironlands. I play fights with paper minis and the Two Hour Wargames Swordplay 2015 ruleset]

Previous events: Amara, Quinn and the crossbowman Delos attack a group of broken that are raiding the area. The heroes are defeated. Lestara harshly critiques Amara’s initiative, which ended in favouring Zura. Amara leaves Whitebridge heading for Stoneford. Quinn and Delos come with her. In Stoneford, they are hosted by Kaivan, the son of the healer. The day after their arrival, the river-idol is stolen and the heroes join Kaivan in the hunt for the thieves.

They follow a track through the forest and, at dusk, they reach a small camp occupied by warriors wearing bizarre conical helmets. Amara moves forward and is immediately attacked by the warrior who was on watch on the small hill near the tents.

She defeats the first attacker and the other two sword-armed enemies charge her only to be defeated in their turn. Amara is forced to duck-back by arrows, but Kaivan bravely moves forward and puts one of the archers out of the fight.

Is the last survivor captured? [likely] YES
Do they find the stolen idol in the camp? [50/50] NO

What do they find out about these strange warriors?
The prisoner reveals that they call themselves the Makari. [Oracle: Remove Passage] Stealing the idol was a diversion to easy their attack on Stoneford. Several teams have left tracks in different directions to mislead as many pursuers as possible. By now, the Makari must have secured the village and the river crossing.

After only a couple of hours walking through the forest, the heroes are ambushed by a group of broken!

Amara is the target of two arrows, but she dodges both. Delos shoots a dart but misses. Amara and Quinn charge two of the broken: they both quickly dispatch the opponent. Quinn moves on to successfully charge one of the archer: the only surviving broken flees.

After two uneventful days of walk, the heroes reach Stoneford. They are received friendly and lodged comfortably in the house of Kaivan, the [Oracle: Timid and Weak] son of the shaman.

[Oracle – Settlement trouble – 11: Important object is lost]. Early next morning, the village is in full alarm: the guards of the river idol have been killed and the idol stolen. Several rangers are hunting the thieves and Amara, Quinn and Delos are asked to help. [to be continued]

Inciting incident / ‘Settlement Trouble’ [oracle: Important event threatened][oracle: breach power] Someone is threatening the next term of Lestara as overseer.
Hostile NPC: Zura – armed and armored warrior. A young and popular woman, who intends to refuel the conflict with Stoneford. Her point of view is that the brokens raiding Whitebridge are sent by the people of Stoneford. In order to stop the raids, Stoneford must be openly attacked and defeated.

Amara
Delos, Amara and Quinn

The crows inform Amara that a farm has been attacked by the broken. She summons Quinn and Delos (a crossbowman) and heads for the the farm. As soon as they emerge from the trees, they are attacked by the broken archers. Quinn is hit and out of the fight. Delos is too scared to move out of cover and put his crossbow to good use. Amara bravely faces two charging fighters, but she is defeated in the third duel and forced to retreat.

Lost battle: Pay the Price “A person or community you trusted loses faith in you, or acts against you”.
Zura uses the incident to her advantage. She leads a larger force to the farm and forces the broken away. Lestara is very disappointed and tells Amara that she doesn’t want her to take action in first person without informing her.
Amara decides to reach Stoneford (troublesome journey) and see if she can do anything to help her community. Quinn and Delos agree to come with her.
